Villain Rehab

Installment 8

After finishing their search of the car and realizing Felix still wasn’t back, Ace and Luna went searching in the surrounding woods. Finding a broken magnifying glass in the bushes maybe 30 yards from where the car was parked, Luna spread a big smile over her face. “I’m telling you. It’s gonna work!” coaxed Luna, holding the magnifying glass up to one of the cigarette ends. “I’m skeptical…” Ace replied, watching the cigarette intensely. After 5 minutes of watching the cigarette be illuminated by the sun, Ace got bored.

“Come on, let me try. You’re obviously not gonna do it” Ace said frustratedly. Luna sighed with an eyeroll, now a classic of hers, and reluctantly handed the magnifying glass to Ace. Another almost 5 minutes went by of looking very closely at the cigarette, before Ace also sighed and gave up. Luna looked at the magnifying glass again and pondered for a bit. “Maybe try the other side?” She threw out, with low expectations. “I think I read about that in a magazine once, that you should try both sides” Ace flipped over the cigarette and watched as it lit in under 15 seconds. Ace and Luna cheered, before remembering their goal and grabbed another cigarette. Lighting the second one, they got into the car and rolled the windows down, smoking their cigarettes.

“What do you think Felix is up to?” Ace asked, making conversation. Luna laughed for a second before responding “Probably something stupid. She doesn’t have the guts anymore to be evil, so probably begging on the streets for cash instead of just stealing it.” Ace thought for a moment before replying “Well, yeah actually. She might be. I know stealing isn’t her thing, but it’s a learned behaviour. And she’ll learn eventually”

Luna looked over Ace’s shoulder and Ace followed her gaze. Luna was sulking back to the car from around the trees, with a black backpack slung over her shoulder. Getting in the backseat, she tossed the backpack far into the car, and then collapsed on it, using it as a pillow in her sad rest. “Did you steal that?” Luna asked excitedly. Felix just nodded her head sadly, while Ace and Luna let out a cheer and high fived each other, then attempted to high five Felix. She didn’t accept it.

“Felix. Don’t be like that about petty theft. Come on, let yourself celebrate!” Ace cheered, looking at Felix’s depressed state. “It’s not the stealing. I understand we need to do that. I… Did something a lot worse” Felix replied, curling up further. “Well what did you do?” Luna probed. “I don’t want to talk about it” Felix replied, providing no further explanation.
