Felix walked for almost 5 minutes before reaching the inside of the cozy town and looked around at the infrastructure. There wasn’t a lot. A small store simply titled “Dale’s store” was the central and largest building in the city, and was flanked by a small bar and a McDonalds. The rest of the small city was residential buildings and an old crickety well in the center. Looking closer at the McDonalds, the sign boasted “The Seahawks won! Free Fries!” Seahawks, huh? So we’re in Washington.
The first thing Felix did, after taking a moment to think about her situation critically, was go into the McDonalds and order at the register. “Can I have those free fries the sign was boasting about?” The cashier looked at Felix with dead, burnt out eyes. “Um, excuse-” “One medium fry coming right up” The cashier said, in an overly burnt out voice. Felix looked at the cashier awkwardly, before sitting down in a booth.
Looking out the window at the back ally, Felix noted something of interest. A large green dumpster sat in the back ally, and on top of it a closed black backpack. “Number 4” the cashier called out in the same burnt out voice. Felix took the fries and walked out to the back ally to look inside the backpack.
Inside the backpack, Felix found a surprisingly well packed array of items. A change of clothes, a deck of cards, 20ft of rope, a large folding knife, and a pink novel titled “The queen’s girl”. Felix stared at the backpack for a second, conflicted, before shaking her head and throwing it over her shoulder. As she turned to leave, she was stopped in her path. Not by a person, though. A snow white seagull stood directly in her path, staring directly into her soul. “Aw, why aren’t you a little dear. It’s ok, I’ll just go the other way and not disturb you” Said Felix, turning to leave. The seagull squawked a hearty squawk as she turned around, and Felix paused. Turning back around, she looked harder at the seagull. “Oh, I get it. You want some food! I can do that for you.” She said to the seagull, tossing it a fry which it caught out of the air.
She turned and walked out into the street between the McDonalds and the bar. She barely made it onto the sidewalk before hearing another squawk from the ally. Turning around, there was now 3 seagulls next to the dumpster. Felix looked at the seagulls, and looked back at the bar. “Oh no… I shouldn’t” Felix whispered to herself. No Felix, you can’t. You need to be good and go back to your life in the rehab center, she thought to herself. On the other hand, Ace and Luna are right. Going back to the rehab is a death sentence at this point. Besides, If I want to survive, I need to embrace my evil side like Ace said. She reasoned with herself.
It doesn’t matter if you can go back, the whole point of the rehab is to be a good citizen when you leave the facility! Being bad is the antithesis of what you’re meant to do! She reasoned with herself again. Ace’s voice started to echo in her head. “Come on, Felix. You have to face that you’re not going to live a normal life, let yourself live a little. This is gonna be good practice for you.” Oh Felix that means stealing for survival. Not this! This is 100% unnecessary and you would just be doing something cruel for kicks! Just steal and get it over with so you can go back to Ace and Luna!!! “LET YOURSELF LIVE A LITTLE…” Felix smiled and tossed a fry to the new seagulls.
…
20 minutes and 8 fry runs later, Felix counted 34 seagulls in the pack. Perfect. “Hey seagulls, it's been really nice getting to know you all, can you do a little favor for me?” she said maliciously, looking through the window of the small shop that was the bar. It was no more than a few dozen square yards. “Oh, that’s wonderful news” She said to the seagulls. Felix turned the corner out of the ally and opened the door to the bar, throwing the remaining 3 containers of fries into the store. Holding the door open as all 34 seagulls climbed over each other to get into the store, before Felix closed the door and tied it shut with the rope from the backpack. Then, she stood back and laughed maniacly as she watched the chaos unfold inside.
After almost 5 minutes of rolling on the floor laughing, observing the chaos inside the bar, she walked across the street to Dale’s store, witch had been closed all day, and climbed in the open window. “Too trusting” she said out loud as she raked items off the shelf and into the backpack, before climbing out the window and walking back to the car.
